Lapwing

Privacy Policy

Effective August 18, 2026

Lapwing collects nothing from you. There is no account, no analytics SDK, no advertising identifier, no tracking pixel, and no Lapwing server. Your runs, including where you went, are yours. We never receive them.

Where your runs live

Every run you record, including its GPS path, is written to a database inside the app on your iPhone. If your device is signed into iCloud, that database also mirrors to your own private iCloud database, so your runs follow you to your other devices.

"Private" here is Apple's technical guarantee, not a promise of ours. Records in a private CloudKit database are readable by your Apple ID and by nothing else. We cannot query them, export them, or see that they exist. If your device has no iCloud account, the app stores runs locally and simply does not sync.

Location

Lapwing asks for location while you are using the app. It is used for exactly three things, all computed on your iPhone: drawing the route of your run, measuring how far you went, and working out your pace.

You can say no. The timer, the chimes, the haptics, and your run and walk times all work with location denied. You lose the map, distance, and pace, which is why treadmill runs look the way they do.

Your location is never sent to us, sold, shared with a data broker, used for advertising, or used to build a profile of you.

Purchases

The optional lifetime unlock is handled by Apple through StoreKit. Whether you own it is checked with Apple on your device. We do not run a payment server and we never see your name, your card, or your billing address.

What touches the network

The app does not need a connection to time a run, record a route, or save it. Network use is limited to Apple services you already use:

All of that goes to Apple. None of it goes to us, because there is nothing of ours for it to go to.

No analytics, no tracking

Lapwing contains no third-party analytics, no crash reporting SDK, no advertising framework, and no usage telemetry. We do not know how many runs you have done, how far you go, or whether you opened the app today. We are not being modest about our data practices. There is no data.

Children's privacy

The app collects no personal information from anyone, at any age. There is no account and no collection by us, so there is nothing for us to gather regardless of who is using it.

Deleting your data

Delete a run in the app and it is gone from your device and, on the next sync, from your iCloud database. Deleting the app removes its local store. To clear the iCloud copy as well, use Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your iPhone. We hold no copy to delete.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
